Legal Associate (Commercial Litigation, Corporate & Advisory Practice)

We're currently seeking a dynamic and innovative individual for the role of Legal Associate for our client.

Job Summary:
We’re looking for a highly versatile and result-oriented Legal Associate with demonstrated experience in commercial litigation, corporate legal practice, and legal advisory services for our client, a reputable full-service law firm. The ideal candidate will have a solid track record of handling client matters from legal advisory to deal structuring and dispute resolution, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

You will be responsible for managing diverse legal matters across multiple practice areas while maintaining high professional standards, delivering client-focused results, and upholding the integrity of the firm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients in commercial disputes before courts and arbitral panels

  • Draft and review pleadings, motions, and legal correspondence

  • Conduct legal research, manage discovery, and prepare case strategy

  • Draft and review contracts, shareholders’ agreements, and governance policies

  • Handle company formations, restructuring, mergers, and acquisitions

  • Attend court hearings, pre-trial conferences, and client briefings

  • Conduct legal due diligence for corporate transactions

  • Advise on regulatory compliance (SEC, CAC, CBN, FIRS, etc.)

  • Provide clients with legal opinions and tailored advisory on business decisions

  • Vet internal policies, employment contracts, service-level agreements, etc.

  • Identify and mitigate legal risks for clients through proactive guidance

  • Monitor and interpret legal and regulatory developments

  • Maintain long-term, trust-based client relationships

  • Other tasks as assigned.

Required Skills & Tools:

  • 3–5 years of post-call experience handling a blend of litigation, corporate transactions, and client advisory

  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian legal frameworks, including CAMA, contract law, evidence law, and civil procedure

  • Proven experience in representing clients in court and arbitration proceedings

  • Excellent legal drafting and documentation skills — including contracts, pleadings, legal opinions, and reports

  • Proficiency in legal research using platforms such as LawPavilion, Legalpedia, or similar tools

  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and strategic thinking skills

  • Ability to manage multiple files, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail under pressure

  • Familiarity with digital document management systems and remote communication tools

  • Initiative and independent thinking — no handholding
